Money & Banking

Students may open a bank account by simply going to the institution of their choice and stating that they would like to open an account. Generally, two forms of identification are required to open an account. A telling will explain the kinds of accounts that are available. Banks are listed in the Duluth/Superior telephone directory, and there is also one bank located on the UMD campus. TCF Bank, 218-726-8814.

Most students have found the best solution is to open both a savings and a checking account with the same institution. A checking account permits you to write checks, which eliminates the possibility of losing rather large amounts of money that you may otherwise have to carry with you.

Some institutions have automatic teller machine (ATM) service to make withdrawals or deposits any time of the day or week. Automatic tellers are located in the Kirby Student Center and nearby shopping centers.

Wire Transfers

Transferring money by international wire service to or from your accounts is available at any bank anywhere in the country for same day availability. Electronic notification will be received of incoming wires.
