The International Student Mentor program is designed to assist incoming international students to better adapt to a new environment and academic system. International student mentors provide friendly support as new international students become acquainted with UMD and Duluth. The program is intended to bring U.S. students, returning international students and new international students closer together in order to increase cross-cultural experiences on both sides.
As a new international student, you will be assigned a mentor. This is a free service that is provided to you by UMD. Once you confirm your enrollment in UMD and you email us or fill out a Mentee Application, you and your mentor will be given each other's contact information so you can e-mail one another before you even arrive in Duluth.
As a mentor to an international student, you will be assigned a new international student to contact before they arrive. You will also meet with your mentee as soon as possible after they arrive in the United States. For the majority of Fall 2015 incoming students, this will be August 22nd, but Graduate students frequently arrive earlier.
