1. The Upgrade is coming soon!

Several important University systems will be upgraded for improved functionality in April, and services will be limited during the anticipated cutover period between April 10 - 20. Here are some important dates and deadlines to be aware of:

March 13 (Friday) - last day to submit a GDP and have it reviewed for approval by GSSP. GDPs submitted after this date will be reviewed after systems come back on line on April 20.

March 20 (Friday) - last day to Assign/Update an Examining Committee. Note:  an approved GDP must be on file before students can access this function.

March 23 - 25 - queued registration for graduate students for Fall 2015. Registration for Summer/May 2015 opened on March 2.

March 26 - last day for faculty/staff to take action on any pending committee assignments.

April 3 (Friday) - Other workflows (Assign/Update Advisor, graduation packet, etc.) will go offline. Downloadable forms (App for Degree, Master's Reviewers Form, Final Exam Form, Deposit Agreement, etc.) will be available, but completing these requests before the systems interruption is recommended.

Week of April 20 (projected) - Graduation Packet and other requests back online.

For more details and interim forms (as they become available) visit the Graduate Student Services and Progress (GSSP) page.

For more information on how the Upgrade will affect faculty, staff, and students, visit the Upgrade site.

NOTE: Students in MEEd, MEHS, MAPL, MEd, MTAG, and MEng programs will also experience limited services during the cutover. Questions about degree progress and clearance paperwork should be directed to program offices or the UMD Graduate Office.

3. Policies Governing Graduate Education

In 2010, the University Senate Committee on Educational Policy (SCEP) charged a Graduate School Policy Review Committee to review and update existing graduate education policies that were previously found in a variety of formats, including the Graduate School catalog and constitution.  The committee completed its work in spring 2012.   Graduate education policies will continue to be developed and reviewed under the purview of the vice provost and dean of graduate education, in consultation with faculty, staff and student stakeholders.  Please contact with questions or for more information.
