Who pays for signage?
Facilities Management will pay for new room signage under three conditions...
  • The building is being resigned as part of our ADA signage upgrade program.
  • The building has not yet had it's signage upgraded and a new faculty/staff person is hired for that office.
  • The sign has been stolen or damaged ad a Police report has been filed.
Facilities Management does not pay for signage when...
  • The use or name of the room has been changed by the using department
  • The room is modified by a project. (Signage modifications are part of the project costs.)
  • The room is used by auxilary (non-state funded) department.
  • City of Duluth Water, Gas, Sewer, Storm Sewer
Naming rooms
  • Rooms on campus cannot be named after individuals without the permission of the administration.
  • Documentation of approval should accompany signage request.
  • We try to keep room names as general as possible to facilitate a wide range of use.
  • Classrooms and laboratories are not given specific names unless the room has specific, longterm equipment and is unusable for other uses.
How do I get new signage for a room?
  • Fill out a work request online form.
  • We try to keep room names as general as possible to facilitate a wide range of use.
Standards for Signs with Paper Inserts
  • Facilities Management will provide an insert sheet for your A1 or A2 signage.
  • Use Helvetica Regular font for paper inserts. If your work processor does not have this font, Sans Serif is an acceptable alternative.
    • Primary information on the insert (such as title of person), 72-point Helvetica is used.
    • Secondary information (such as title of person), 48-point Helvetica is used.
    • Other information (such as office hours), 24-point Helvetica is used.
    • As a general rule, text under 24-point should not be used on paper inserts.
