Screenings & Immunizations
UMD WellCare is able to provide several screening and immunization options for UMD faculty and staff. An appointment is required, and eligibility may vary slightly by the visit type. To schedule an appointment, call (218) 726-8666. Please bring your insurance card and UCard to your appointment.
Biometric Health Screening
As part of the University Wellbeing Program, biometric health screening is available to University faculty and staff, and their spouses, covered by UPlan insurance. If you are not a UPlan member, please check with your insurance company or primary healthcare provider if you would like to have these tests done.
Biometric health screening includes a simple blood test (via a finger prick) for cholesterol and fasting glucose (blood sugar), blood pressure check and body composition for 150 wellbeing points. More information about Biometric Health Screenings.
Blood Pressure Checks
If you would like to have your blood pressure checked, please stop into UMD WellCare during walk-in hours or contact the UMD WellCare nurse at (218) 726-8666 to set up a time. There is no charge for this service and is available to all UMD faculty and staff, regardless of insurance coverage.
A Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) (also known as Mantoux or PPD) can be done to test for TB exposure for UMD employees where this is a work related requirement. The test is applied one day (appointment takes 15 minutes or less), and results must be read within 48 - 72 hours. Since UMD WellCare is closed on Fridays, a TB skin test can only be applied on a Monday or Tuesday, in order to be read in the required timeframe. If the test is not read within 48 - 72 hours, it will need to be repeated.
UMD WellCare is able to provide the following immunizations by appointment for UMD faculty and staff and their spouses covered by UPlan insurance. There is no co-pay charged, but the bill for the vaccination may be sent to your insurance company. Regular boosters, such as every 10-year tetanus booster, should be arranged with your primary care provider.
Follow the links below to learn more about the vaccine via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Vaccine Information Statements (VIS). Note: The annual flu shot pledge is worth 25 wellbeing points. To get credit, log into the Redbrick portal.
