CSD's International Programs

Initiatives to increase the number of students studying abroad and the number of international students and scholars on campus are key, but must be complemented by a campus culture of global awareness, sensitivity and engagement and the integration of international perspectives and experiences into learning and discovery. Every graduate must be transformed into a global citizen. The University of Minnesota must ensure that internationalizing the university results in internationalization of the student. With a goal of preparing global citizens, the CSD program promotes the internationalization of the teaching, research, and outreach missions of the University.

"As we set about the task of trying to revitalize undergraduate education, we felt that study abroad needed to be very much at the center of that picture," says University president Bob Bruininks. "Internationalizing the curriculum is about transforming the student experience--transforming, in a real sense, the kind of contributions we make to the development of our students as they study with us and also as they go out into the world."
