Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders

Clinic Materials and Equipment

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has a variety of clinical materials, tests, books, and equipment which have been purchased for student and faculty use. These materials may checked out for up to one week.   Students are responsible for notifying the clinic secretary of any broken or missing equipment, materials or test forms that need to be reordered.

Admittance to Clinic Resource Rooms is for CSD faculty, staff, and students only.

You will receive notice shortly before the end of the semester regarding return of materials. Students are responsible for paying the replacement cost of any materials not returned. If students do not return the item and do not pay the replacement cost, a hold will be placed on the student´s record and they will not be permitted to register for further classes until the issue is resolved.

Office Supplies are off-limits.

Office supplies in the RFP Clinic are for Department use only and are not for student use. Individuals found using Department supplies for personal use are subject to discipline under the policies of the University of Minnesota.

Clinic Materials are not for Personal use and not for Personal Consumption.

The clinic will provide some therapy resource materials such as paper, food items, or disposable eating utensils. These are for clinic use only and are not for personal use or consumption.

Clinic Resource Center(CRC): ChPk 173

The Clinic Resource Center (CRC)is a repository for a large inventory of published programs, diagnostic tests . The CRC also houses various electronics that may be used in therapy, such as audio recorders and portable audiometers. These materials must be checked out before removal from the CRC. If you cannot locate a CRC item, please talk with the Clinic Secretary.

Procedures for Accessing CRC Items: "You check it out, we put it back."

  • Length of Check-Out: A maximum of ONE WEEK ONLY.
  • Check-Out an Item.
    • Each item has a sign-out sheet.  Sign your full name, date the sheet, and place it in the bin in the CRC.
    • Check out the entire item, such as a full test or a full box of articulaton cards.   Do not take parts of items.
  • Return the Item.
    • Return the item to the BIN in the Clinic Secretary's Office
    • Use care when repacking items in their boxes or cases. Equipment can be fragile and is expensive to replace.
    • Please NEVER RE-SHELVE items in the CRC on your own. Returning items to the Clinic Secretary's Office allows us to track our inventory.  If interns reshelve items, the system for keeping track of the location of supplies breaks down.
  • If something you want is checked out by someone else, what do you do?
    • IF the item you want is sitting in the return bin, then tell the clinic secretary you are taking the item BEFORE you take it.  If the clinic secretary is not there, see a staff person for assistance.
    • IF the item you want is checked out and not returned yet, then ask the clinic secretary for assistance.  If the clinic secretary is not there, see a staff person for assistance.

Voice and Speech Lab Privileges

In order to obtain privileges to use the equipment for therapy with a client, students in the CSD Department must contact Dr. Collins. Students may have to complete a skills check before being granted lab priveleges.

Lab privileges may be revoked if a student fails to abide by the conditions for accessing the lab.

Conditions for Accessing the Voice and Speech Lab

  1. Get approval/privileges from Dr. Collins.

  3. Sign up for your lab time.  Because the lab is used for multiple purposes, interns must sign up to reserve the lab for therapy.  To reserve the lab, sign up on the lab door. Lab availability is subject to change depending on other coursework or research occurring in the department.
