Clinic Materials and Equipment
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has a variety of clinical materials, tests, books, and equipment which have been purchased for student and faculty use. These materials may checked out for up to one week. Students are responsible for notifying the clinic secretary of any broken or missing equipment, materials or test forms that need to be reordered.
Admittance to Clinic Resource Rooms is for CSD faculty, staff, and students only.
You will receive notice shortly before the end of the semester regarding return of materials. Students are responsible for paying the replacement cost of any materials not returned. If students do not return the item and do not pay the replacement cost, a hold will be placed on the student´s record and they will not be permitted to register for further classes until the issue is resolved.
Office Supplies are off-limits.
Office supplies in the RFP Clinic are for Department use only and are not for student use. Individuals found using Department supplies for personal use are subject to discipline under the policies of the University of Minnesota.
Clinic Materials are not for Personal use and not for Personal Consumption.
The clinic will provide some therapy resource materials such as paper, food items, or disposable eating utensils. These are for clinic use only and are not for personal use or consumption.
Clinic Resource Center(CRC): ChPk 173
The Clinic Resource Center (CRC)is a repository for a large inventory of published programs, diagnostic tests . The CRC also houses various electronics that may be used in therapy, such as audio recorders and portable audiometers. These materials must be checked out before removal from the CRC. If you cannot locate a CRC item, please talk with the Clinic Secretary.
Procedures for Accessing CRC Items: "You check it out, we put it back."
- Length of Check-Out: A maximum of ONE WEEK ONLY.
- Check-Out an Item.
- Each item has a sign-out sheet. Sign your full name, date the sheet, and place it in the bin in the CRC.
- Check out the entire item, such as a full test or a full box of articulaton cards. Do not take parts of items.
- Return the Item.
- Return the item to the BIN in the Clinic
Secretary's Office
- Use care when repacking items in their boxes or cases. Equipment can be fragile and is expensive to replace.
- Please NEVER RE-SHELVE items in the CRC on your own. Returning items to the Clinic Secretary's Office allows us to track our inventory. If interns reshelve items, the system for keeping track of the location of supplies breaks down.
- If something you want is checked out by someone else, what do you do?
- IF the item you want is sitting in the return bin, then tell the clinic secretary you are taking the item BEFORE you take it. If the clinic secretary is not there, see a staff person for assistance.
- IF the item you want is checked out and not returned yet, then ask the clinic secretary for assistance. If the clinic secretary is not there, see a staff person for assistance.
Clinic Files Room: ChPk 156-A
Laptop computers, cameras, audio recorders and hand-held video recorders
- Length of Check-Out: Same day check out and return.
- Check-Out an Item.

Stopwatches, pen lights and batteries
- Length of Check-Out: Same day check out and return.
- Check-Out an Item... honor system, no sign-out. Take it, use it, clean it, return it.
The in-house Digital AudioVisual Podcast System is used for recording therapy sessions. No check-out procedure is necessary.
Augmentative Alternative Communication Lab: ChPk 130-A
The CSD Department has a large variety of Augmentative/Alternative Communication equipment for use with clients. Students must follow the check-out procedure outlined in the Lab.
- Length of Check-Out: Same day check out and return, unless permission is given for longer check-out.
- Check-Out an Item.

- Return the Item to the shelf.
- Clean the item and return it to the shelf.

Toys and Crafts: ChPk 130
The CSD Department has a number of toys and craft materials for clinical education and RFP Clinic services.
- Length of Check-Out: Same day check out and return.
- Check-Out an Item... honor system, no sign-out. Take it, use it, clean it, return it. A utility sink is available in the student workroom for cleaning toys.
Computer Lab: ChPk 155
The CSD Department has a computer lab for CSD student use. These computers are password protected and are the only computers to be used for client documentation. The computer lab is funded by student tech fees and is provided as a service to students.
CSD Computer Lab Guidelines:
- CSD Majors only. Because the CSD Computer Lab is used for clinical documentation, only CSD Majors and authorized workforce members may enter the lab.
- Don't guess the password. If you do not know the password, ASK the secretary. Do not guess the passwords on teh computers, as this causes computers to lock up for security reasons.
- Call Tech Services. If you are locked out of a computer, or if you have any technical/equipment problems CALL the UMD TechCenter (726-8847) and report the problem. Record the problem on the Computer Lab Log.
- Pay for your printing. Students must pay for their own printing,as per the policy of the University of Minnesota
- Ask the secretary for supplies. If you are out of supplies, tell the secretary of the supply need.
Intern Supplies Storage
Student interns have the option of using a locker located on the first floor of Chester Park by the classrooms. Checked-out department supplies are not to be stored in unsecured lockers. The CSD Department is not responsible for the personal belongings of students.
