Facility Maintenance

We are proud of our Clinic!

All interns and instructors of the Robert F. Pierce Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic bear responsibility to keep the clinic organized and maintained for client services.

  • Put it away properly. Please put items in their proper place after you use them.
  • Wipe it up. Please wipe up after yourself, especially after eating. If you have food in the workroom, do not leave dirty dishes in the room.  Do not leave dirty dishes in the utility sink.  Clean dishes and put them away; wipe tables to keep them clean.
  • Stop and Fix It.  If you see a problem area, chip in and help fix it right then and there; do not walk by and hope someone else will do it.

Ongoing Responsibilities of Interns in the Therapy Suites:

  • After your session, follow the cleaning procedures for cleaning all room surfaces to include tables, seating surfaces, windows, mirrors, light switches and door handles.
  • Clean and put away your toys and equipment.
  • After your session, check to make sure the speaker in the observation room has been turned off and all materials, trash, toys in the observation room are removed.
  • Report any broken or damaged equipment to the clinic director or clinic secretary.

Ongoing Responsiblities of Interns in the CRC:

  • Gather any items that are not shelved and are sitting around the CRC (there shouldn’t be any, but occasionally it does happen), and place them in the BIN in the Clinic Secretary’s office.
  • Dust shelves.
  • Assist each other in following the Clinic procedure for proper check-out and return of items.

Ongoing Responsibilities of Interns in the Toy Room:

  • Gather any items that are not shelved and are sitting around the Toy Room (there shouldn’t be any, but occasionally it does happen), and put them away
  • Straighten items on shelves.
  • Dispose of any broken items and report them to the Clinic Secretary.
  • Clean any soiled items.

Areas to maintain:

LOBBY

  • Change toys in toybox on a regular basis.  Use only toys that can easily be washed.  Wash the toys that had been in the toybox and put them away.
  • Straighten toy area.  Put a few new books in the children’s bookshelf.
  • Wipe off all toys.
  • Wipe off children’s furniture: desk, chairs, bookshelves, toy box.
  • Wipe down table and chairs in the lobby.  Straighten furtniture
  • Dust and straighten Resources Bookshelf.
  • Refill the brochures rack.
  • Dust the large silk plants.
  • Straighten the magazines; throw away tattered or very outdated magazines.
  • Remove an report any broken toys or furniture.

 THERAPY ROOMS

  • Dust window sills and heating vents
  • Dust off supplies shelf
  • Take inventory of cleaning supplies.  Should have instruction sheet, towelettes, cleaning solution, box of vinyl gloves, Kleenex, and tongue depressors.  Replenish supplies if needed.
  • Wipe off all treatment tables and plastic chairs.  If upholstered chairs are soiled, remove them from the space and report this to the clinic secretary.
  • Each treatment room should have a flashlight for emergencies.   Check batteries in the flashlight.  If batteries are dead, see clinic secretary for replacement batteries.   If flashlight is missing, report it to clinic secretary.
  • Clean all switchplates, light switches and doorknobs (both sides of door).
  • Clean the window with window cleaner.
  • Remove any equipment that should not be in the room and put it away.

OBSERVATION ROOMS

  • Remove any equipnent that should not be in the room and put it away.
  • With a dry cloth, wipe off the shelf and the digital recording equipment.  Once per semester, clean the computer monitor with computer cleaner.  Ask the clinic secretary for cleaning supplies.
  • Wipe off the window sill.
  • Clean the window with window cleaner.
  • Each observation room should have two chairs.  Place chairs in the rooms and dust them off.
  • Clean all switch plates, light switches, and door handles (both sides of door).

ADL ROOM

  • Wipe off window sill and register.
  • Wash phone.
  • Wash table and chairs.
  • Wash garbage can lid.
  • Wash kitchen counter
  • Wash sink.
  • Wipe out microwave.
  • Wipe out  and straighten fridge.  Discard out-of-date items and items not for therapy.
  • Wash handle and outside of fridge
  • Straighten cupboards and wipe off shelves.  Discard out-of-date items.
  • Discard any broken items.  Report them to the secretary so we can get replacements.
  • Wash window with window cleaner.
  • Clean all switchplates, light switches and doorknobs (both sides of door).

GROUP TREATMENT ROOMS

  • Dust off window sills and heating vents.
  • Dust off supplies shelf/cupboard.
  • Taken inventory of cleaning supplies.  Should have instruction sheet, towelettes, cleaning solution, vinyl glove box, Kleenex, and tongue depressors.  Replenish supplies if needed.
  • Wipe off all treatment tables, counters, and plastic, chairs.  If upholstered chairs are soiled, remove them and report this to the clinic secretary.
  • Use computer cleaning equipment to clean large screen monitors as needed.
  • Straighten supplies in the cupboards in the small group room.
  • Clean the window with window cleaner.
  • Remove any equipment that should not be in the room and put it away.
  • Clean all switchplates, light switches and doorknobs (both sides of door).

 TOY ROOM

  • Straighten all toys on the game shelf.
  • Straighten all toys in the cupboards.
  • Straighten all toys in the bins.
  • Clear and put away any items in the aisles.
  • Ensure NO ITEMS are along the wall heading to the AAC lab.  This must stay clear for physical accessibility.
  • Organize large toys.
  • Wash any soiled toys.
  • Discard any broken toys.  Report broken toys to the clinic secretary so we can get replacements.
  • Organize bookshelf.
  • Wash the switchplates, light switches and door handles (both sides).
