Faculty Suggestions for Maintaining Academic Integrity During Exams

  1. Use alternate seating.
  2. Randomize seating.
  3. Use scrambled versions of exams.
  4. Check students’ IDs when exams are turned in.
  5. Leave backpacks, etc., at the end of the aisle or in front of the room.
  6. Faculty member must remain in room and should walk around the room.
  7. Have proctors walk around the room.
  8. Create new tests and avoid using old tests from previous semesters.
  9. Use essay exams instead of multiple choice and true/false.
  10. Avoid take-home exams unless they are designed for collaborative work.
  11. Add a statement to syllabi and exams outlining the consequences of academic dishonesty.
