The most recent event was a Commission Café, in May 2010, which called together membership from a variety of commissions and advisory groups from across campus to focus energy and share common goals. Participants’ discussed what three things new campus leadership should be aware of. After discussion, we summarized the three action points:
1. Strong leadership (modeling, inclusivity, transparency, follow-through) on best practice diversity, equity, and socially just policies which are funded and embedded at every level of the university.
2. Leadership on a university-wide process which culminates in a new UMD mission which includes the above-mentioned policies. Promote, publicize, and enforce this mission.
3. Inclusive and democratic governance at UMD: every student, staff person, faculty member, and administrator has a voice.
