Graduate Program Council

November 27, 2012

Present: Julie Ernst, Bob Lloyd, Mike Raschick, Diane Raushenfels, Faith Loven, Fay Maas (ex offcio)

Resumed discussion regarding CCTC Program submitted by Education.  Suggested that Fay email Joyce with our recommendations, concerns and feedback. Julie noted that Tim Holst provided some clarification about collegiate vs post back certificate programs.  Courses taken for a Post Bac certificate can be counted toward a graduate degree whereas courses taken for a collegiate certificate program cannot. Post Bac certificate programs must be approved by GPC and by the TC Board of Regents.

SW 8106

Mike noted that this is a course that has previously been offered as special topics and would like it to be a regular course.

  • #8- check all online components; consider the conference/workshop.

CSD courses

Faith noted that all course proposals are related to clinical practices in the grad program.  Before no matter what setting (clinical or educational) or whether the course was full or part time there were only 2 course numbers.  Changes reflect a more realistic credit level/workload from the student perspective.  Effect on degree program is not significant.  The students are limited in the number of credits they can apply toward the licensure requirements by ASHA.

Julie asked whether the overall credits required for the degree are changing. No because students need to take the courses to make the number of clock hours that are needed for certification. So they can choose to satisfy the minimum requirement for Plan B but they may or may not be ready for certification.  Still will need the same number of overall credits. The program has dropped the course requirements from other departments.

Noted that CSD needs to send a memo to Fay indicating that the requirements have changed.  Also the memo should include a copy of the catalog language using track changes. That way Nancy Burley will know the exact changes that the department wants made to the catalog copy so that it will accurately reflect the changes.

CSD 5142—approved

CSD 8230

A memo to Fay included that CSD 8230 replaces CSD 5240. If dropping seminar about dementia, is there something from 5240 that will be needed to be added to 8230? If so, amend #25 and 26 to include new topics, outcomes and assessments.

Approved upon determining whether additional content required

CSD 8397

  • #13- Delete no change in contact hours; currently students are taking CSD 8097 for variable credits. The question is asking about instructor contact hours per week. Keep Current staffing is sufficient to cover the new course. Add information about following UEA contract SCH for teaching this course.
  • #20—Students will be charged 2 fees; a lab fee for printing materials and a criminal background check fee needs to be added.
  • #22-Explain how the addition of this course will not increase the credit hours for the degree requirements.
  • #23-Explain how adding an additional course will not impact current faculty teaching loads.  Why will no additional faculty be needed to teach new courses?
