Graduate Programs Council
Electronic Meeting – action recorded February 11, 2005
Members were sent a summary of proposals for the 2005 Educator's Institute and asked to indicate approval of the proposals. Some questions were addressed via email with the Institute Director. The following list of courses was approved, with concerns raised by Melanie and Bob about the software classes. Copied from Bob's email for future reference: [ For the Institute, I approve all of the submissions, but with regard to the regular graduate curriculum in Education, courses of MS Word, other MS Office programs, or PowerPoint, while important for a teacher to know, would be remedial in nature. Graduate unites should not be awarded for remediation, and these courses do not contain the theory or rigor to merit upper division status, let alone graduate status. Typing is an important skill for academics, and, like these other courses, if offered, should be "Not for credit."]
