Academic Affairs Council

November 17, 2009

Present: Fay Maas, Jiyoon Yoon, Lynette Carlson, Georgia Keeney, Bruce Munson (ex officio and recorder)

Approval of Minutes – Minutes of the last meeting were approved with one change – References should be presented in course proposals in a professional format. APA is one acceptable professional format.

It was noted that the October 6 minutes are still not accessible via the web site.

Athletic Training (AT) program revisions

    • A program proposal reflecting revisions to Athletic Training was received late by committee members, but it was agreed to begin consideration of the changes anyway.
    • There were some inconsistencies in documents related to which courses were being changed (program proposal form, curriculum changes memo, and curriculum comparison document). The program proposal will need to be resubmitted with consistency in the documents.

*Note on all programs & courses – each required program and course proposal item needs to include a response, even if the response is N/A.

  • ESAT 2610 – If a credit is being added to this course, the course proposal items #21, 22, & 23 should show the changes from the original approved course.
  • ESAT 3600 – Appears to be only requesting a name change. If that is confirmed the Associate Dean can submit a memo to VCAA and a course proposal is not required.
  • ESAT 3630 - If a credit is being added to this course, the course proposal items #21, 22, & 23 should show the changes from the original approved course.
  • ESAT 3632 - If a credit is being added to this course, the course proposal items #21, 22, & 23 should show the changes from the original approved course. There is also a discrepancy in the name of this course among the documents provided.
  • ESAT 3640 – This was not included in the memo on program changes. Is a change in credits being requested? If a credit is being added to this course, the course proposal items #21, 22, & 23 should show the changes from the original approved course.
  • ESAT 3642 - If a credit is being added to this course, the course proposal items #21, 22, & 23 should show the changes from the original approved course.
  • ESAT 3610 – Approved
  • ESAT 4600 – Approved to drop a credit from this course. It may be possible to do this by memo for this type of course.
  • ESAT 4610 – As a new course proposal the committee would like to see additional information provided on item #21. Approved with minor revisions.
  • ESAT 4701 – Does not appear on program changes memo. Is this a new course or a revision of ESAT 4700? In either case additional information is needed for item #21.

Georgia Keeney, as HPER representative, will work with Athletic Training on changes to the program and course proposals before the next meeting. Athletic Training proposals will get first consideration at the next meeting.

Suggestions to VCAA on forms

  • It would be helpful to have the original information provided as a contrast to proposed changes.
  • It would be helpful to be able to delete sections that are not changing, or highlight changes.
