Academic Affairs Council

September 18, 2012

Present:       Georgia Keeney, Lynette Carlson, Scott Carlson, Mike Raschick, Fay Maas (ex officio)

Excused:      Jean Stevenson

Announcements – members would like three additions to be made to our webpage:

A.   important dates related to curriculum decisions (for example, catalog change deadlines, summer school course deadlines, etc.).

B.   State new policy being implemented by VCAA office – all catalog and course changes for the following school year are now due to the VCAA by the first day of spring semester.  No exceptions!  Changes will be made only once a year.

C.   The mission of the committee as defined by current CEHSP constitution should also be on the webpage.

Courses acted upon:

Educ 4225/5225 – since there was no member present from Dept. of Education at this meeting, discussion of this proposal was postponed.

SW 4101 – approved with minor changes.  Changes recommended include leave #12 blank, expand rationale in #22 by relating to national standards, etc., relate #23 to how the new course fits in BSW proposal, and explain #25 conceptual outline not clearly reflected in objectives.

SW 4102– approved with minor changes.  Changes recommended include consider changing course title to reflect research applications in social work field and add social work terminology in #25, leave #12 blank, check box #18, expand rationale in #22 by relating to national standards, etc., and relate #23 to how the new course fits in BSW proposal.

SW 4111– approved with minor changes.  Changes recommended include consider adding terms “individual, family, and group practice” into conceptual outline and objectives, leave #12 blank, expand rationale in #22 by relating to national standards, etc., and relate #23 to how the new course fits in BSW proposal.

SW 4112– approved with minor changes.  Changes recommended include in section label “Requesting” check “add a new course”, #10 change to fall, change #18 to no, leave #12 blank, expand rationale in #22 by relating to national standards, etc., relate #23 to how the new course fits in BSW proposal, and #25 add final exam to assessment methods as final exam was checked in #11.

SW 4201 – approved with minor changes.  Changes recommended include change #18 to no, leave #12 blank, expand rationale in #22 by relating to national standards, etc., and relate #23 to how the new course fits in BSW proposal,

Rec 2300 – Since the course has a new title, new credits, new course description and conceptual outline, the committee members would like to see it presented as a new course.   Drop Rec 2300 (3 cr) and add Rec XXXX for 4 credits.  The proposal is deferred.  Georgia will discuss this and other suggestions with Tom Beery, author of the course.

ESAT3200 – Decision deferred until more information is provided.  There were several changes needed to the proposal and the committee would like to see the original course proposal.  Changes to the items #25, #26, and #27 should probably be made since credits are being reduced from 4 to 3 and some content is being deleted.  (**error in #13 and #14 we didn’t catch – should be 4 SCH**)

AAC will meet on Tues. Sept. 25 at 11 in a special meeting in order to facilitate meeting VCAA October 1 deadline for spring semester course proposals.
