UMD's 3-Year Program Assessment Cycle
Across a 3-year cycle, each of a program’s Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) is assessed and reported at least one time.
In the years that program SLOs are not reported, approved changes to potentially improve student learning on those SLOs are implemented. The effectiveness of the changes is evaluated through analysis of assessment results for following SLO reporting years, which is known as closing the loop.
Undergraduate programs determine their own reporting schedules for the 3-year cycle.
Example: Program A has 4 SLOs.
- Year 1 = SLO 1 and 2 reports submitted.
- Year 2 = SLO 3 report submitted.
- Year 3 = SLO 4 report submitted.
Graduate programs agreed upon a common reporting schedule for graduate learning goal categories. Graduate program SLOs are reported as follows:
- Year 1 = Goal 2
- Year 2 = Goals 1 and 3
- Year 3 = Goals 4 and 5
