COME AND JOIN US for the 2014 Annual Student Exhibition Opening and
4th Annual OPEN STUDIO tours on Saturday, April, 26, 1-6 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend Art & Design's 2014 Annual Student Exhibit in the Tweed Museum, with reception, awards ceremony, and open studio events on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 on the UMD campus.
Art & Design's Annual Student Exhibition runs April 8 - May 11, 2014 in the Tweed Museum of Art at University of Minnesota Duluth. The exhibition features creative work across a range of media, including animation, ceramics, digital art, drawing, graphic design, motion graphics, packaging design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video. This year's show was juried by artist Davin Watne, educator at University of Missouri Kansas City, and graphic designer Seth Johnson, principal of Minneapolis-based SETH JOHNSON DESIGN.
“Upon viewing the student submissions, I looked for work that had strong craft, a willingness to experiment, an original vantage point and an inclination toward future aesthetics as well as a motivation to challenge old ones.”
– Davin Watne, exhibit juror
“It’s work that tells a story, fully explains an idea, asks a provocative question, rouses me to action, convinces me with certainty, demonstrates creative and critical thinking, goes beneath the surface, and makes me excited to witness what this generation of creative leaders will achieve.”
– Seth Johnson, exhibit juror
On Saturday April 26th, UMD's Department of Art & Design opens its doors to the public to view student work and facilities from 1pm-4pm. The Open Studio event includes classroom tours, demonstrations, hands-on activities, live music, and an affordable art sale of student work. The studios are located in Anderson Hall and Humanities Buildings at 1201 Ordean Court on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus. The Open Studio event is a joint effort created by UMD student groups: Art Guild, Photo Alliance, Media Arts Club, Mud Guild, and Student Design Organization. Students display creative work and demo various art processes such as stone lithography printmaking, wheel throwing, and digital art techniques. After touring the Art & Design studios, the public is welcome to attend the Annual Student Exhibition Reception in the Tweed Museum from 4-6pm. The exhibition reception will feature live music, refreshments, and an awards ceremony at 5pm.
