UMD Tour Guides

Altogether, there are about 45 students that volunteer as UMD Office of Admissions Tour Guides. These volunteers lead groups of up to fifteen people on extensive tours of the campus. They are responsible for presenting every part of the campus and for providing descriptions of University programs, facilities, and services; in addition, they must be prepared to answer spontaneous and widely varied questions from our guests. Since they are critical contact people for our prospective students, UMD Tour Guides must have a sense of commitment to the University, strong communication skills, and an upbeat personality.

UMD tour guides

While most college and universities pay their guides, UMD does not. By offering no monetary incentive, we attract students to guide that are truly dedicated to the goals of the Office of Admissions. The chance to meet new people, contribute to the campus community, and share personal experiences are cited as top reasons for volunteering as a UMD Tour Guide. Tours typically last one to two hours and guides are scheduled for one tour per week at a time convenient to their schedule.
